Carl Smith is a lifelong Coatesville area resident with an outstanding record of achievement as an educator, track and field coach, youth advocate and community volunteer. He holds a Principal Certification from Cabrini College, a Master’s in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Carl’s dedication and accomplishments have been recognized over many years. He coached the 2014 Pennsylvania State Champion High Jumper (6’10”) and League champions in Track and Field in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. He received the Citadel Heart of Learning Award in 2008 when he was named the Educator of the Year in the Coatesville Area School District. In addition, Carl was named Chester County Track and Field Coach of the Year, 2003, 2006, 2008 and Coatesville Area Senior High School Educator of the Year in 2003. He has also served as President of the Greater Philadelphia Track and Field Coaches Association since 2004.
Carl is well known for going above and beyond to mentor, guide and support community members of all ages. He served on the Board of Directors with Good Works, Inc. home repair ministry, and since 2006, he has served as a Member of District One, Track and Field Steering Committee. He is an active member and Elder with the Coatesville Bible Fellowship Church in Coatesville, and was appointed as a board member with the Brandywine Health Foundation, now the Alliance for Health Equity. Carl treasures the opportunity to serve as a trustee with the Newlin Foundation and views his role in this capacity as an extension of his life’s work and mission.
