Harry (Bud) Lewis has an outstanding record supporting, guiding and coaching Coatesville area youth. He earned an undergraduate degree from Winston Salem State University in North Carolina and returned to his beloved Coatesville to begin a 41-year career of distinction.
While performing as a teacher, administrator and track coach and raising a family, Harry earned two Master’s Degrees, received numerous awards for his significant contributions to the wellbeing of so many.
The Harry Lewis Jr. Scholarship, which awards $5,000 to a deserving student for each of their four years in college was created by the Brandywine Health Foundation to pay tribute to his substantial impact. Though he retired in 2006, his community service has continued, and in 2014 he was elected to serve the 74th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Harry was drafted to serve as a trustee of the Newlin Foundation because of his community insight and longstanding commitment to helping young people advance beyond high school. In addition, Harry, the eldest of 11 children, faced challenges along the way that are common to the challenges young people face today. His counsel, as a Newlin trustee, is very much appreciated and valued.
